Destin, Florida Jewel of the Emerald Coast
Oct 26, 2017
Destin Florida feels like it’s apart from the mainland, but in reality, it is a peninsula with pure white sands. The gulf water that surrounds it has an emerald cast from which the area draws its name. It is these waters that make Destin a favorite destination of beachgoers. Rent a kayak or paddleboard and you can navigate these waters firsthand. Dolphins, stingrays, sharks and in the winter, manatees frequent the waters of Destin’s shores. You can lazily move along the placid waves and experience the marine life close-up. Renting a Jet-ski give you an opportunity to scour Destin’s entire coast, and a little more. You can zip from Destin all the way down to Miramar Beach and back if you so desire. A jet ski gives you the same open road feel as a motorcycle, but as you hop waves and feel the salt spray in your face. Regardless if you use a jet ski or paddle under your own power, you can spend countless hours on Destin’s stunning gulf waters.
Destin has options for fun on land as well. Rent a scooter and you can dash from one beach to the next and have little trouble finding parking. Rent a bicycle while you are in Destin, not only can you pedal along the sidewalks to the beaches from your hotel, there are several places in the area with great trails. Grayton Beach has a nine-mile round trip bike trail that winds through low dunes, longleaf pines, gnarled oaks and sawgrass. Another great location to bike off road is Longleaf Greenway, which just east of Destin. Longleaf Greenway offers a trail that snakes through pines, palmettos and tall grass. You may encounter black bear, coyotes and gopher turtles while riding through the park.
Destin is a natural treasure where you can choose at what pace to explore it.
